Introduction
The Government of Kenya through the Ministry of Interior & Co-ordination of National Government has recently shared a press release reminding all Kenyans that by 1st December 2022 Kenya will migrate fully to using the new East African Community Biometric e-passport. Well, renewal /replacement of the old generation passports shall continue as usual, however it is important to note that one will not be able to travel in and out of the country using the old generation passport after 30th November 2022. Therefore, it would be important to ensure that you replace your passport as there shall be no further extension to the said deadline.
Procedure for Application of Kenyan Passports
N/B All passport applications should be submitted online via the E-citizen Platform and every individual should ensure to use their own Ecitizen account. For children under the age of 18 years, either of the parent should submit the application on their behalf using their Ecitizen Account. Thereafter one should book for an appointment for collection of their biometric details, taking of a digital photo as well as the submission of the hard copies of the application and other requirements.
Kenyans Citizens Living Abroad
Kenyans living abroad should submit their applications through the respective Kenyan Embassies and High Commissions. You would wish your children born abroad who have foreign passports to acquire the new E-Generation passport.

You relocated abroad prior to attaining the age of majority (18 years) and need a Kenyan National ID to facilitate opening of an E-citizen account and subsequent issuance of the new e-Biometric passport.
